Nearly half of all Americans are dog owners, enjoying the emotional and health benefits that come with pet ownership. As with any pet, of course, dogs come with their own sets of needs, including not only , play, and grooming, but also exercise. Many pet owners wishing to simplify their lives opt to install a dog door, thereby decreasing the frequency with which they must get up to let their pet inside or out and giving their dog the freedom to let him/her self out.

come in many sizes, a factor to consider based on the size and height of the pet and the opening they need to come through. In general, dog doors can range from 13 inches by 23 inches on the extra-large end, to 5 inches by 8 inches on the small side. They can also be installed in different places, including wood, steel, French, and glass doors; windows; and brick, siding, and stucco walls. In addition to the standard construction, electronic dog doors are also available. They are also built to withstand different environments and locations; in general, the best bet will be an energy-efficient, construction-grade dog door that leads right out to a fenced area with a gate to keep the pet safe.

With such a range of dog doors on the market, it is important for pet owners to evaluate their personal needs, as well as available product features, sizes, models, and options, to identify the dog door that is best for them. Magnets and strikes hold the pet door closed when not in use. The material, number and strength of the magnets determine whether your cat or dog door is energy efficient in foul weather. Alnico5 magnets paired with stainless steel strikes along the sides and bottom of the door make the best combination.Basic installation instructions for any wood or steel door are as follows: Remove door from hinges and lay it down on sawhorses. Position template where the door will be installed. Mark the hole to be cut for the pet door and the smaller bolt holes if they have to be drilled separately by tracing the template. Drill holes at the 4 corners of the rectangle, and the smaller bolt holes. Use a jigsaw to cut out the rectangle. Most dog doors have an inside and an outside frame and they bolt together through the door. Place the frames on the inside and outside, and bolt the pet door together through the door. That's it!

PlexiDor dog doors and cat door are constructed to provide safe and easy access for pets without the human having to get up and act as doorman. The doors have security features such as lock and key, and a steel security plate, and the electronic door can only be operated by pets with an RF-ID key.Lay a straight edge across most aluminum or steel doors, and it becomes clear that they area actually flat. They have decorative panels which are typically a pressed or formed design, and the recessed "routered" part being the only part of the door that is actually thinner. The easiest way to install a pet door in this situation is to straddle one of the panels so that the pet door sits on the flat area in the middle, on the side, and below the recessed area. The dog door frame will cross the recessed areas on the top, and the gaps can be caulked. If the pet door is too large to straddle one or the other recessed panels, the doggy door can be installed right in the middle of the door, and all of the gaps caulked.Watchdog Security Pet Door Cover review by Kristi M – Phoenix
I have spent years fiddling around trying to slide the plastic door up and down over our pet door so our family and pets were safe inside the house every night. I never felt truly safe as I knew that flimsy piece of plastic could easily be kicked in. The Watchdog Security Pet Door Cover takes 2 seconds to swing shut and locks securely. I feel completely safe through the night knowing that an animal or intruder can not possibly enter our home through our new steel security doggy door!
