My question is this: an Eastman fiberglass F style with shoulder straps, use a small dog cover on any of my existing cases and rotate mandolins depending on which Mando I take or buy a deluxe-premium gig bag that has good protection (suggestions). Mandolin is often loaded with other band member instruments in a trunk?

FYI, I sent an email to Small Dog, as well, asking if they would make a custom case cover for a double mandolin case. They wrote back a very nice and helpful response, indicating that they would be happy to do it, that it could be in any color I want. They even provided some dates when they will be out of town, a list of information needed to place the order, and a price. They invited me to come in to their shop (in Boston, where I frequently visit), as I had indicated I might drop the case off for measurements. Nice people. I may go with that, or with the Autumn Wind group. Small Dog Case Cover 82DGM3 Martin 600 Series SKB Guitar 30%OFF

Have you seen cases with the tolex worn through, plywood coming apart and then duct tape to hold the whole thing together? #I have. #That's why I have Small Dog case covers for all of my instruments. #They are an insulation barrier that further resist sudden changes in temperature / humidity and are waterproof to boot! #What's not to like? #
Anyone ever tried one of these? I'm interested in a padded case (to cut down on sudden temperature extremes) that is also waterproof (not 'water resistant'). I've encountered a number of nice padded ones, but none advertised as waterproof--except the Colorado / Small Dog case cover.

Anyone had any experience with them? Do they keep out the rain? Are they sturdy?

They're a bit dear, but I don't mind paying for quality--however, I'm insistent on the waterproof element. Now that I have a couple decent fiddles, I'm less comfortable traipsing around Ireland's festivals and streets without some rainproofing--especially as I do a fair bit of my travel by 'ordóg', bus, or walking. In addition, the thick insulation seems great for the cold climate into which I've been exiled most of the rest of the time.

Here's a photo. I realise that there seems to be a mandolin case involved, but it's the photo that appears on Colorado's website for the violin padded & insulated case cover.

Small Dog brand case covers are available for most stringed instruments such as guitars, banjos, mandolins and violins. Small Dog case covers are very popular with musicians who need protection, but aren’t checking their instrument as airline baggage on a regular basis. Their design features a synthetic shearling liner to help protect and cushion the instrument. We stock around 50 different sizes, with a pattern library of well over 1000 different cases. When you need to protect your instrument, turn to Small Dog case covers. Thanks! I am a big believer in these, especially for air travel. I've never seen off-the-shelf ones in a music store; would be nice if they were available. I have Small Dog case covers that I ordered online; they are custom made for the specific instrument case, and are lined with thick shearling. Keep the cases looking great, and provide extra padding and insulation for travel. They are expensive but I have been happy with them. I've listed a nice Small Dog Case cover over the the classifieds if anyone is interested. I'm looking to trade it for a dreadnaught guitar Small Dog Case Cover if anybody has one to trade, or I'd just sell it.

Thanks!
Bill
