I've been using Program for my dogs for 20 years and absolutely swear by it! For our first dog, fleas disappeared within two weeks and after the sixth pill, we didn't have to buy another round of meds for 5 years (yes, I said years). We had no fleas or ticks! Same story for his second and third round of meds (he lived to 15 1/2 years old and only needed 3 (6 month) packages. Our most recent dog experienced the same results for her first five years! This last month, fleas are nutso because of the warm winter we had. We tried other meds and topical treatments and it might as well be flea invitations! I'm going back to Program! It works!

Unlike some other flea treatments, Program is safe for puppies as young as six weeks of age, and is also safe for cats. If you're buying Program for your cat, it's in the same packaging as Program for Dogs. Cats up to 6 pounds take the Program for dogs 11-20 pounds; cats 7-15 pounds take Program for dogs 21-45 pounds. But don't worry, you don't have to try to memorize all these numbers and dosages. All boxes are clearly marked. In trials, Program provided 99 per cent control of flea egg development for 30 days following a single dose application. After six months of treatment, the mean number of fleas on Program-treated dogs was four, compared with 230 on untreated dogs.CATS
If you own cats, they must be involved in the flea control program even if they are not exhibiting any problems, or they will carry the fleas to your house, yard, and dogs. Cats are much more sensitive to the chemicals in flea preparations, and many insecticides cannot be used on them. We recommend Revolution(r) (selamectin), Frontline Plus(r) (fipronil and methoprene) or Advantage(r) (imidacloprid) in the feline formulation. A newer product not currently available at the clinic is Promeris(tm) (metaflumizone) for cats. Promeris(tm) for cats is safe to use on cats and kittens 8 weeks of age and older. Though recommended for monthly application, this product shows activity against fleas for up to 6 weeks. All these products are applied in a similar fashion as in dogs. Beginning at the base of the head, part the hair and spread the small amount of liquid down the top of the neck. Application also varies from two to four week intervals, depending on other treatments. Please follow the instructions outlined for your pet. Capstar(r) (nitenpyram) is also safe for use in cats as a "quick kill" in the event fleas are seen, or can be given every one to two days for routine flea control if an oral product is desirable.PROGRAM Flavor Tabs are indicated for use in the control of flea infestations on dogs and in their habitat. PROGRAM works by interrupting the flea life cycle, thereby preventing the build-up of flea infestations on dogs and in their surroundings. PROGRAM is indicated for use in dogs six weeks of age and older. Treatment should be initiated at least one month before the onset of the flea season and continued throughout the entire flea season to prevent the build up of a flea infestation. PROGRAM Flavor Tabs are also indicated for control of active mid-season flea infestations. However, in this situation, flea adulticides should be used concurrently at labelled rates for the first 6-8 weeks. This provides time for PROGRAM to impact flea population dynamics by interrupting the life cycle.
