A common misconception is that microchips are GPS-tracking devices. This is not true-microchips are passive implants, activated only once your dog is found. In contrast, GPS devices are actively linked to real-time satellite receivers or cell-phone modems. Worn outside your dog's body, GPS tracking devices, the size of a business card, transmit your dog's exact locale-and even directions how to get there-back to you once you "call" or text the device. They can also alert you when your dog strays.

It is important to understand that a dog microchip is not a GPS device providing real time tracking capabilities. Rather, a dog microchip is a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) device. Unlike a GPS device, a dog microchip doesn't require power, and it is easily identified by an animal shelter or veterinarian waving an RFID scanner across a dog's body where the microchip is embedded. The scanner simply identifies the company who made the chip and provides an account number. Once the veterinarian has this information, they will contact the ID company, provide the account number and then the company will contact you based on the information they have on file. Your information is never directly released to the veterinarian or to anyone else. microchip dog gps

Now let me explain in some details. Your pets can only be identified through a typical microchip that isn’t GPS enabled. If you want to be reunited with your pet who wears a micro chipped collar and who has run away, an individual first has to locate or find your pet doggie. No, it’s not! What people sometimes misunderstand is that a microchip is NOT GPS. GPS needs a battery, it cannot exist inside an animal’s skin without a power source. A microchip does NOT show your dog or cat’s location. A MICROCHIP IS NOT GPS CAPABLE.Dog microchips or a dog collar fitted with a global positioning system device is worn around your pet’s neck. The global positioning system in it works similarly to normal mechanism of GPS that we are used to. The doggie or the pet will wear the dog microchipping GPS enabled collar. The pet owner will have a corresponding handheld receiver device.Use your microchip in conjunction with a Nuzzle Collar. Nuzzles have a built-in GPS that can provide near-instant info on the location of your pets. This adds a layer of protection if your dog or cat is lost or stolen. Now you can track them using GPS, and if they manage to slip their collar, they have the microchip as a back-up.Two very important things to remember. 1. Collars get lost! 2. Batteries die! We love love the StickR TrackR but it should be used WITH a microchip, not instead of a microchip. The microchip holds vital information INSIDE your dog or cat’s body. This can never get lost. Even a great GPS device can fall off. So, we suggest getting your pet microchipped asap. And for extra peace of mind you can purchase the StickR TrackR. It’s really THE best pet GPS we’ve seen so far; we think the combination of the microchip and tracker is amazing. And now we can sleep better at night, knowing our fur-babies are safe! 😀A GPS dog collar is really quite a simple and pain-free solution in tracking your pet. A dog wears a collar with a built-in GPS device. When the dog goes missing, the owner can go online and track the animal down making it easier to locate the pet. This method is really simple to use and something that most owners can work with as well. What’s more, it can be far more cost-effective than micro-chipping as that procedure can be extremely costly.
