Avoid purchasing a coal tar shampoo until you talk to your vet. Plenty of conditions can cause greasy coats or flaky, irritated and dry skin. Some of these conditions, such as allergies, infections and ringworm, require treatment and medications aside from lathering on tar shampoo. Even if coal tar shampoo can treat your pup's condition, your vet may want you to use it more frequently than you would a normal shampoo -- such as once or twice weekly until the dog's skin heals.

I go looking for them, and I see lots that seem marketed to Animals (dogs in particular).

Bad thing is, these are the ones that usually come in like a liter, or gallon size.

Are all coal tar shampoo's the same?

I noticed the dog one was 5% coal tar, but the most powerful one the derm gave me was 2.5%.

Can anyone answer this question or recommend a brand/concentration?

I've been using T-Gel or some brand named DHST-Gel shampoo should not be used on your dog or any animal for that matter. It is a strongly medicated shampoo and can dry out your pet's skin to the point that the dog will need to be seen by your veterinarian for treatment. The active ingredient of coal tar can actually burn or damage your dog's tender skin and make the treatment much worse than the problem you are trying to treat.shake Well Before Use.
